“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

Nobody

you sit next to him in class
never speaks, or interferes with others
he's oblivious like the air you breathe
label: a nobody

walking home from school,
you see trash flying from the dumpster,
take a glimpse inside
mr. nobody

Character Analysis: Curly's wife

The value a person places on his or herself is largely determined by the value others give to the person. Curly is a man who treats his wife as if she isn’t his wife at all. When someone is denied of love and affection they seek attention from others. Curly’s wife is in a relevant situation, her husband over-looks her most of the time, which makes her scout for attention from others. Her personality ranges from a “whore” to a “lonely wife.” She has a complex personality with questionable intensions, but who could blame her? Curly’s wife is a women who gave up her dream of being a star to settle with a man who doesn’t really care if she’s there or not.

When Curly’s wife was fifteen, a show came through town. She met one the actors, and he told her she could “go with the show,” but her ol’ lady wouldn’t budge on that idea, being the age she was. Later on she met a guy who was in “pitchers.” He took her out to the Riverside Dance Palace and told her he would put her in the movies, and that she was simply, “a natural.” He promised to write her when he got back to Hollywood, and never did. She hung on the idea that her ol’ lady had stolen it, and believed she could no longer live in Salinas. Her solution to her insecurity: marry Curly.

After marrying Curly, she became lonely. She was bitter when she spoke of how she was restricted to talk to anyone other than Curly, or “else he’d get mad.” She felt trapped into the marriage, and had no friends or family there to comfort her, and support her.

Being unhappy for so long can lead to physiological damage. Many decades ago women couldn’t leave their husbands; they had no way of supporting themselves. She had confided in Lennie that she “[doesn’t] like Lennie,” and that he isn’t a “nice fella.” Curly’s wife goes on to tell about how she could have been in the movies, worn all the nice clothes, sat in the big hotels, and had pictures taken of her. If she had gone she assured Lennie that she “wouldn’t be livin’ like this.”

Although Curly’s wife’s life ended tragically, there was a bit of joy. She was no longer suffering the regret of giving up her dream to be a star to marry Curly. Her life of misery married to Curly was at an end. Her spirit was free to ponder, and she could finally be a star.

The Vacious Depths of Main Street

Main Street is the oldest street to originate in Bateville. People from long ago cam and settled their families here. The first houses, stores, and movie theatreall were built on Main Street. Today they are still standing. Many buisnesses are filling into old run-down buildings, but when you take a look at this historic street, you'll see how empty it actually is. Main Street is run-down, and not much is really going on, but I believe the whole town of Batesville can relate to this one street.
Population of Batesville: 9, 462 people. Batesville has had almost the same populatin for the years, and not much has changed. People are born, people die. Buisnesses are opened, businesses are closed. Nothing has really changed, right? Batesville is more like Main Street than you think. Main Street has stores open, and stores close. So if you really think about it.. what's the difference?
When one buisness closes on Main Street, usually there is another trying to fill it's place frantically. Why is this? Main Street has history, and that attracts visitors. Visitors see these stores, and want to buy their products. Even though this may all be true, there is still a hollow filling about Main Street. Maybe it's the aged roads, and old rusted buildings that give this feeling, but theres something about Main Street that has it's own little charm.
From the road construction on every highway to the smell of chicken factories everytime you open your door, the town of Batesville leaves you with a warm at-peace feeling, right? Not quite. Batesville and Main Street do have similar characteristics, but with that, they're also are quite opposite. So many people, so much traffic, and never ending noise.
Main Street is old, aged, wore-down, and empty, but at the same time it also a popular place to have a business, shop, and learn about the towns history. Batesville can also relate, and contrast to Main Street, by having many similar and different characteristics. But when it comes down to it, we all know that Main Street is a beautiful historic place and gives Batesville a sweet charm.

9/11

At 8:46 on the morning of September 11, 2001, the United States became a nation transformed. An airplane plowed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, and minutes later a second plane hit the South Tower. Almost 3,000 people were killed. Terrorist. Why did they do this? Why the United States? These acts of murder were intended to, "frighten our nation into chaos and retreat." But as George Bush states, "They have failed. Our country is strong." Bush is absolutely right. Our country is very strong, and even being faced with many difucult things, we've gotten through. So why America? Bush states, "America was targeted because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world." Choosing to destory the World Trade Center was meant to frighten us, make us feel weak, and make them feel like the superior nation. Our country shoed them wrong. Although we will never forget the 9/11, we move forward in hopes to, "defend freedom, and all that is good and just in our world."

I am..

I am young and optimistic
I wonder how my life will turn out
I hear music playing always
I see life as gift
I want to live life care free and happy
I am young and optimistic

I pretend to be happy even when I'm sad
I feel love from my family and friends
I touch the Lord when I pray
I worry that I'll never make a difference in the world
I cry when I'm hurt and upset
I am young and optimistic

I understand everything happens for a reason
I say God has a plan
I dream of growing old with the one I love
I try hard to be the best student I can possibly be
I hope for the best
I am young and optimistic

The Color Purple

When I saw that our next journal would be on a book, I wasn't really looking forward to it. I scanned the book list, and randomly picked one. I chose The Color Purple by Alice Walker for no certain reason, but after I got to reading it, I was very thankful I did.
In this book Celie would be writing her story to God, which made me even more interested. She wasn't really praying to God it seemed like, but she was telling Him her story.
Celie was a young girl who was sexually abused & beaten by her father, before and after her mother passed away from an illness. My father and I have gotten into many arguements but never have I lived through something like Celie had. Which made me open my eyes to how thankful I should be for having a relationship with my father like I do. Her younger sister Sophie was smart, and was better looking than her. My older sister has always been the prettier and smarter one also. But my sister and I have always gotten along, just like Celie and Sophie had.
Sophie had found a man she was crazy about, he had gone by Mr.____ in the book, and her father had refused to let her marry him. Instead of allowing Sophie and Mr.____ to marry, he insisted on him and Celie to marry. I don't agree with arranged marriges. Why should someone tell someone else who to marry? Marrige is suppose to be about love and friendship, and this was definatley not how it was with Celie and Mr.____. He bossed her around, made her cook, clean, do the farming, and he beat her.
This book took place in a very different time era I believe, but arranged marriges, and beating someone you're suppose to truly care about will never be okay. This book gave me so many things to think about, and I'm so thankful I chose to read it.

This Is The Stuff

Two weeks ago, I got back from a mission trip from New Orleans. During our time there, we did a little sight-seeing in the French Quater. While walking down the long, dirty, crowded streets in New Orleans, I saw an old man. This old man had on a green sweater, jeans, and a pair of old tennis shoes, the only thing that stuck out to me, he was digging through the trash can for food. This situation goes well with Francesca Battistelli's song, 'This is the Stuff'.
My mom always told me that you can't always have your way. To be popular, have a big house, wear the cutest clothes; we don't get it all. But it shouldn't matter.
'This is the stuff that drives me crazy, this is the stuff that's getting to me lately.' Why should we get upset about not getting the newest things, when some people are upset about not getting food to eat today?
We just take the littlest things for granted. 'In the middle of my little mess, I forget how big I'm blessed.' It's sometimes hard to see how lucky we are until someone shows us how lucky they aren't.
'So break me of impatience, conquer my frustrations, i've got a new appreciation, it's not the end of the world.'

Casey Anthony Release: Will She Be in Danger After Prison?

Everyone all over the world has heard the story of Caylee Anthonys' murder. All evidence is pointed towards her mother, Casey Anthony. Casey had  failed to report her missing daughter, and Caylee's body was found December 8, 2008. Casey was indicted on charges of first degree murder and faced the death penalty. Casey entered a plea of not guilty, and didn't testify through the trial. On July 5, 2011, the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder and all other felony charges. The jury founy Casey guilty of four misdemeanor counts for lying to law enforcement.
On July 5, 2011 Casey may had been acquitted of killing her daughter Caylee, but her release Sunday may lead to a whole different "kind of trial." Casey's first main concern is staying safe. Hundreds of death threats have been issued to Casey via Facebook and Twitter. Flordia police took precautions to keep her safe during the trial and will continue to do so.
The ire may be worst at Flordia, but there is still very few places she could go where people might not recognize her face. She has been the spotlight of magazine covers, cable news, and the internet. Rumors say Casey will leave the state and live under a new name for protection.
But unfortunatley all news for Casey isn't bad. While many were outraged by the verdict, she has many who admire her. Since the trial has started she has money orders in prison, many from men who want to take care of her.
Casey Anthony may wright a book, do interiews, or allow someone to play her in a movie, but she still has to face the public opinion everyday, and that's worse than a million years in prison.

January 5, 2011 :) ratios!

                              Ratio 4:1

sides-
BD:16         XZ:4
CD:8           YZ:2

area- 128:8  simplified- 16:1

If you triple the sides the new lenths would be..
BD:48        XZ:12
CD:24        YZ:6
The new ratio would be 12:3
The new area would be 4:1

The effect if you decreasethe ratio of the areas is the ratio of the area is triple the ratio of the sides!
